Day 3…

Today I left another little treat in my kids’ teachers’ mailboxes.  We (ahem, I) made some dipped pretzels.  If you’ve never dipped pretzel, I highly recommend it.  It’s quick, easy, inexpensive, and the kids can help.  This time I dipped them in chocolate, but most times we dip them in the candy melts you can find at the craft store.  I sprinkled the pretzel (while they were still wet) with some peppermint crunch I found in the baking section at the craft store.  They were dry and ready within the hour.  I put them in little bags and stapled on these cute treat topper.  Once again, Mari’s kit, Snow Much Fun, is just too cute.  It comes out tomorrow, so go and snag it in the morning at The Digi Chick!

Sorry this picture is not the best.  Thank goodness for camera phones…I almost forgot to take a picture at all!  I printed the treat topper, scored on the line and punched the edge with a scalloped edge punch.  I’m all about quick, simple, and easy.  Just a little something that shows you care but doesn’t break the bank.

You want one?  You got it!  I’ve made the treat topper into a pdf download.  All you need is Adobe Acrobat (it’s free and you probably already have it) to open the file and print.  You can download the FREEBIE here.

the secret recipe for Magic Reindeer Food.  Easy to make and a beloved snack for Santa's sleigh-pullers.  Simply mix dry oats (oatmeal) and red sugar sprinkles.  I have heard some people use glitter…but, it was pointed out to me by a friend and fellow preschool teacher, Shannon, that using the sugar is a little more eco-friendly and more liked by the birds, too.

Now, just mix the ingredients and place in a snack-sized baggie (that's the size I used for the topper).  On Christmas Eve night, sprinkle it on your lawn and the sparkles of the sugar in the moonlight will guide the reindeer to your house.  While Santa is doing his job and having his snack inside, the reindeer will have a little something to snack on outside!

NEWS BREAK…the blog is being featured over on Ginger's blog!!! Go check it out!

I've made a cute little topper using Ginger's fabulous kit, Whoville, her red glitter alpah (heart!), and my little reindeer.  Ginger is so sweet to have featured us for her Friday Feature!  She agreed to let me give this little topper to you as a FREEBIE! Download HK-ReindeerFood

The poem reads…

Sprinkle on your lawn Christmas Eve night,

The moon will make it sparkle bright!

As Santa's reindeer fly and roam,

This magic food will guide them to your home.

That bench above is my new hall bench…made from an old twin bed.  I love it!

We are planning to make these little bags and pass them out to our friends.  As you're mixing this up, here are some ways to make it at least a little bit educational…

measure the oatmeal

count the scoops

count the number of 'shakes' of sugar you put in the mix

mix the ingredients in a pattern…a handful of oats, 2 shakes of sprinkles, a handful of oats, 2 shakes of sprinkles, etc.

That's about all of my brain cells tonight…this is the last night before the last day of school before Christmas break.  I have the dipped pretzels for teachers down, still working on the peppermint bark, wrap it up for tomorrow…that reminds me I need juice boxes before 8:30 in the morning!
